What is the recovery like?
A post-operative bra is placed on a patient at the end of the procedure. This bra is typically worn for two weeks post-operatively. It aids in stabilizing the breast implants in the proper position and helps to reduce post-operative swelling. The bra can be removed to shower, but should be put back on. Steri-Strips are used to cover incisions, and are kept in place for two weeks.
Post-operative pain management includes the use of narcotic pain medications and Lyrica (pregabalin).
One week is usually enough time for returning to work and social activities. Light exercise can be resumed as soon as a patient feels ready. Weight lifting exercised that isolate the pectoralis muscles (bench pressing, push-ups etc.) should not be resumed until 8 weeks post-operatively.
