Cosmetic Breast Surgery Consultation
If you are considering breast augmentation surgery, we encourage you to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Gottlieb. A cosmetic breast procedure must be custom tailored for the patient to get the best possible result. During the consultation, Dr. Gottlieb and his female RN assistant will listen to your concerns and discuss your options. He will tell you whether you are a suitable candidate for cosmetic breast surgery and inform you of the potential risks of the procedure. Cosmetic breast surgery costs will be also discussed at that visit. If you are interested in a cosmetic breast surgery simulation, digital photos can be taken during the consultation visit and a digital breast simulation will be performed.
Choosing a Cosmetic Breast Surgeon:
When choosing a surgeon for your breast surgery, consider the following:
- Have you looked at enough of the surgeon's before and after pictures?
- Does the surgeon regularly perform breast surgery?
- Does the surgeon have hospital privileges for plastic and reconstructive surgery?
- Does the surgeon specialize in the plastic surgery of the breast?
- Does the surgeon perform reconstructive surgery of the breast?
- Do you have a personal referral from a trusted source?
- Did the surgeon do an accredited 2-year (or more) plastic surgery training program?
- Is your surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only certification board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties that can certify surgeons to do comprehensive plastic and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body.
Physicians that claim to be board certified in 'cosmetic surgery' do not have the training and qualifications that are equivalent to surgeons board certified in Plastic Surgery.
Bad reasons to choose a plastic surgeon are:
- He/She offered the procedure at the cheapest price
- He/She did a nice job on a friend's rhinoplasty
Be wary of a cosmetic breast surgeon who:
- Is not board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery
- Doesn't examine your breasts
- Doesn't inquire about your past mammography results
- Doesn't inquire about personal or family history of breast cancer
- Doesn't ask you what you don't like about your breasts
- Doesn't answer your questions fully/completely
- Doesn't have an adequate number of before and after pictures or worse, if the pictures don't look that great
- Requires that you travel long-distances for your surgery (plastic surgery clinic in Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Thailand or elsewhere)
